I’ve recently finished editing a series of videos featuring music I’ve arranged for weddings played in the past year. They feature the wonderfully talented Celeste Cumming on cello and myself on guitar. I’ll be rolling them out for the next few weeks. Enjoy!
Starting Tuesday, September 30th, this 10 week session will get underway. It’s limited to only 5 students and a minimum of 3. The only thing participants need to bring is their guitar and a desire to play it. Each 60 minute class will be full of scales, chords and songs. For the raw beginner, it’s perfect and since it’s only for beginners you won’t feel intimidated by the person shredding next to you. They can’t get in. You’ll be able to watch others try to master the basic concepts of rhythm and notes, and then try it for yourself. We have a lot of fun in the class and you will too. Save your spot in the “Shop” section of the website.
I’ve switched roles a bit and moved behind the camera. Here we have Bill Johnson performing his song ‘Older Now’. A Vietnam veteran of the USMC, Bill and I have worked together for several years on his songwriting. His experience and perspective provide him with an insight that few of us will ever know but need to hear.
Last week, a student brought in a song that she really wanted to learn. I thought I’d share a little bit of what goes into that song. Included in the video discussion are tips on capos, barre chords and strumming.
As it’s snowing this afternoon and forecasted to end later this evening, I’m at the studio and ready to give lessons. However, if you don’t feel confident traveling on the roads, we can Skype and do you lesson that way. Send me an email and I can show you how.
This week we’re talking more about the C major scale, a few more songs and some new chords. Within this video, I’m sharing some tips on getting the technique to read and play.
As a supplement to the class, I’ve created a video review of the concepts that are included in week 1. For the beginner, there’s a ton of information. I thought it might be helpful to have a reminder of the ins-&-outs.
Since the first class at 7pm (Tuesdays) has sold out, I’ve decided to add another section. This one will also meet on Tuesdays, but at 6pm. There’s a minimum of 3 students to make it happen with a maximum of 5. If you have never played before, this is the perfect class to get you started. It will start with just basic technique and scales before progressing into chords and simple songs by the end. At $99, you won’t find a better deal anywhere. 10 weeks of 60 minute classes. All you need is a guitar, 3-ring binder and a desire to learn to play the guitar.
I’ve had many students come in after trying work out pieces from videos they saw on youtube. I thought I would help things along by providing my 2 cents. This is the first in the series- ‘Lágrima’. I did 2 others in this shoot and will post those when the editing is done.
As the leaves fall and wind blows cold, things move inside…almost. There’s more teaching and fewer weddings and other gigs. I’m getting ready to shoot more video and record some demos. It also means I start to plan for next year. I’m planning on doing another solo guitar CD in 2014 and the strategy starts now. A recital in late winter is the first step. For now though, I’m embracing the season and that means “Movember”. I’ve put my razor down in support of men’s health issues. Check out the video…and that beard!
